Draft Community Recovery Plan – Chapter Four Summary

COVID-19 prevented us from holding community workshops and meetings to work through our draft Community Led Recovery Plan so we are having to do things ‘back to front’ by progressively putting out chapters of the plan for your thoughts and comments.

Plan chapters will be disseminated by email link to our website (madrecovery.com) and hard copies will be available at the Recovery Hub and the Genoa Pub for those not connected to the internet. Comments can be submitted via the MADRA suggestion boxes outside the Post Office and Genoa Pub, by email to: mallacoota.district.assoc.2020@gmail.com or by letter to Locked Bag 1005 Mallacoota VIC 3892.

Chapter Four is now available. Warning! This chapter is not light reading as it contains a lot of analysis! This is the last of the foundation chapters which provide information and context to support decision making by funding bodies.

What’s in Chapter Four?

In Chapter Four we undertake a broad needs assessment from a community perspective. A needs assessment is a systematic process for determining and addressing needs or ‘gaps’ between current and desired conditions. In other words, OUR assessment of OUR recovery needs rights now and going forward.

In so doing, we look at the factors which shape our recovery strategies including:

  • Community thoughts on bushfire recovery

  • External factors and trends, and

  • The capacity of our community to absorb, implement and sustain recovery initiatives.

What is meant by strategy? A strategy is a framework for effective decision making. Our strategy framework is focused on achieving our Vision of an inclusive, vibrant, strong and safe community.

What is meant by ‘external’ factors? Forewarned is forearmed. To be on the recovery ‘front foot’ we need to understand the broader political, economic, environmental, social and technological trends which will impact our recovery. Some of these trends will be positive, other less so.

Our initial analysis suggests our recovery prospects are good and implementation of the ideas and projects submitted by community members will result in a stronger and safer community.

Is it too late to send in our ideas?

The Plan is a dynamic document and will change over time as projects are completed and new ideas emerge. Please submit ideas via the mediums outlined above.

Thanks,

MADRA
