East Gippsland Timber Milling Project Update - April 2023

Timber milling go-ahead

We are thrilled to advise that the East Gippsland Timber Milling Project now has the green light to expand its operations to Mallacoota and District and assist the residents in our community that have been most heavily impacted by the fires.

The project will use timber that has fallen during the fire activity and mill this into usable timber for people to rebuild with. The project team, including two of our very own young people from Mallacoota who are being trained to operate the mill, will be setting up the mobile Lucas Mill at the Mallacoota Golf Club in approximately three weeks' time.

The project will operate here in Mallacoota for around six weeks on 2–3 days a week during working hours (not on weekends), before heading out to local farms in the district to continue the work. Residents in the area and patrons of the Golf Club can expect to see and hear some activity during this time.

This important project has been jointly supported by the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Mallacoota Golf Club, East Gippsland Community Foundation, Emergency Recovery Victoria and MADRA to support people in our community that have lost so much.

It will provide much-needed timber at a time when availability is scarce and the costs are prohibitive.

It also provides an employment opportunity to some of our young people with the potential to develop an ongoing business for the community.

We welcome any questions you may have about the project.

Thanks,

MADRA
