MADRA News - September 2024
Land tax advocacy
It has come to MADRA's attention that some residents who have lost their primary place of residence have been issued with a Land Tax Assessment Notice for their properties that they are in the process of or are intending to rebuild on.
We want to assure residents that we are making representations to the State Government to examine these notices as quickly as possible and we are recommending an exemption for these properties. In the meantime if you have received one of these notices please make sure you lodge an objection within 60 days of receiving your assessment - link here - or follow the instructions on the back of the tax notice.
If you have already lodged an objection and are waiting for an outcome and would like MADRA to advocate on your behalf please email us with your reference number.
If the 60 days has passed and you would like some assistance to lodge an objection, please get in touch with MADRA (by emailing madra.3892@gmail.com) and we will assist you as best we can.

A reminder from Telstra - 3G closure
MADRA would like to share the following on behalf of Telstra:
As you may have heard, Telstra and Optus have announced that they will extend the closure of their 3G networks and conduct a public safety awareness campaign so all Australians know what action they need to take ahead of the shutdown.
This will mean all 3G users need to be ready to move to 4G and 5G networks from 28 October.
We have been communicating to customers about the need to prepare for the closure for almost five years. This has included multiple letters, bill messages, SMS, public awareness campaigns, advertising – even door knocking and sending free phones to people who need it most.
It is critical customers check their devices are compatible with the 4G network, particularly to ensure they are still able to call emergency services. It is also important for users of connected devices like medical monitors, IoT sensors, EFTPOS and antennas to check whether they rely on the 3G network by contacting the manufacturer or supplier.
While there is more time to make the transition, we urge everyone to not delay and take action today.
Kind regards,
Jenny Gray
