Visit from Senator Tony Sheldon

The Special Envoy for Emergency Services, Senator Tony Sheldon, recently visited Mallacoota. MADRA Chair Carol Hopkins met with Senator Sheldon several times during his visit to discuss local recovery. They were very positive meetings with good conversations about barriers in our local recovery journey, new and different ways to create change, and how to be better prepared for the future. They also talked about improving how communities manage emergencies and emergency recovery. MADRA thanks Senator Sheldon for his time and support of our region.

Gipsy Point tower nears completion

Our on-the-spot reporter at Gipsy Point tells us that power has been provided to the new Telstra tower, so it surely won’t be long until the tower is fully functional and providing mobile services for the area. We look forward to the day that the mobile service ‘black spot’ at Gipsy Point becomes a thing of the past! This will be the completion of a major emergency preparedness project that MADRA committees have advocated for since 2020.
