What is Webinar three about?

Fire science gives us an insight into how fires behave. Greg McCarthy (DELWP) will share his knowledge about fire behaviour with reference to a reconstruction of the progression of the fire that hit Mallacoota, Genoa and Gipsy Point and the implications of this for the future protection of our homes. He will also comment on the benefits of a fuel management regime.

Ross Cutlack (DELWP) is responsible for the oversight of forest fire management in the Snowy Region. Ross will outline the management zones that inform the fuel treatment regimes surrounding our town. These
zones affect the treatment of forest and the frequency of treatment.

Stephanie Montague (CFA) will give a practical demonstration of how fuel hazard is assessed by CFA, explaining how fuel arrangement plays an important role in risk assessment and how management can affect
the severity of fire.

Guest Speakers:

  • Greg McCarthy, Fire Ecologist and Fire Behaviour Analyst, DELWP

  • Ross Cutlack, Fuel Management Planner, DELWP

  • Stephanie Montague, Vegetation Manager, CFA

Haven't seen Webinar two - Houses and Fires?

Tailored for homeowners, this webinar will give you a chance to learn about what previous disasters have taught us:

• How houses are destroyed by bushfires

• Reducing your house and property risks

Key speaker: Justin Leonard (CSIRO)

Justin has dedicated his 26-year research career to the understanding of how bushfire risk to life and infrastructure can be managed. This research combines learnings from bushfire exposure experiments with post bushfire survey investigations and computer modelling of bushfire interactions with buildings.
