Draft Community Recovery Plan – Chapter Seven Summary

This week draft Recovery Plan Chapter Seven – Buildings and Infrastructure is available for your thoughts and comments.

This chapter will be disseminated by email link to our website (madrecovery.com) and hard copies will be available at the Recovery Hub and the Genoa Pub for those not connected to the internet.

But didn’t you release Chapter Four last week? What gives? Where are the missing chapters?

Chapters One to Four of the draft Recovery Plan provide analysis and information to aid decision making on recovery projects by external agencies, such as funding. Chapters Five to Nine of the draft Recovery Plan contain those project suggestions. Chapter Seven is the largest of the project chapters, as well as the most developed as we strive to take advantage of current funding opportunities. So, no missing chapters, just some chapters are more progressed than others.

As COVID-19 restrictions ease, we are planning our ‘face to face’ community consultation process. This is likely to take place early in the New Year, once peak holiday season is over.

What’s in Chapter Seven?

In Chapter Seven, we look at future proofing and fireproofing our critical infrastructure and enhancing our community and visitor facilities. We also look at items of cultural and heritage significance. These items must be considered within a broad town planning context. Improving our overarching economic infrastructure – communications, energy and access – is also a high priority.

Some of the projects in Chapter Seven have yet to be endorsed by community and/or do not have project owners. Other projects pre-date the fires but now have an additional recovery focus; for example, refurbishment of the Main Hall. Some new projects, such as the swimming and hydrotherapy pool, are undergoing community consultation.

The table beneath is a summary of the items in Chapter Seven. Alas, funding is not likely to be available for all of our desired projects. But we’ll never know if we don’t have a go!
