Social housing update

MADRA is thrilled to see the progress being made in the building of 10 social and affordable dwellings in Mallacoota, a state government project announced in 2022 that was a direct result of the work of the first two MADRA committees. MADRA is still monitoring the progress and receiving regular updates from Homes Victoria and it is very satisfying to see the project is now well underway.

Those wishing to be considered for a social housing option must sign up with the Victorian Housing Register run by Homes Victoria. To find out more information about registering, to download an application form, or to check the status of an application please go to: https://www.housing.vic.gov.au/victorian-housing-register. For assistance with their online services, you can call the help desk on 1800 961 883 (9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday). In addition, MDHSS receives some funding as the local agent for Homes Vic/DFFH and should be able to assist you with registering or checking on these details.

So, what is the LIMP?

Residents of Mallacoota and District may have already received a folded pamphlet in their post boxes, which is the Local Incident Management Plan – otherwise known as the LIMP – for Mallacoota.

The LIMP has been provided by the East Gippsland Shire Council and is a combined effort from all the emergency services organisations as well as the Shire. It’s an important document with relevant phone numbers and website addresses and information about how to prepare, what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency. MADRA suggests that you have a thorough read of the LIMP and follow the preparation advice. It has a magnet attached so you can pop it on your fridge and make sure it is always within reach.

Telstra tower at Gipsy Point now underway

Telstra has started work at Gipsy Point on a new tower to allow the integration of a mobile service for the area. This is another major project that all of the MADRA committees have lobbied and advocated for, with the mobile service ‘black spot’ at Gipsy Point obviously being of major concern in emergency preparedness.

Our on-the-spot reporter at Gipsy Point has provided this photographic evidence of the works being underway. Watch this space for updates!

Thanks,

MADRA
