GIVIT

MADRA has set up a GIVIT working group. But wait – “What is GIVIT?”– we hear you say. Good question. Basically, GIVIT is a not-for-profit organisation that helps people and communities to get what they need through an online network of givers and registered community organisations (like MADRA).

How it works

On the GIVIT website, MADRA posts requests for items that we know are needed by local people affected by the fires. Meanwhile, potential givers post details and photos of what they would like to donate. When the request and offer are matched up, MADRA gets the item and passes it onto the person who needs it.

Confidentiality

That means the details of recipients and donors are kept private – GIVIT and the MADRA team are the ‘go-betweens’ who get the items to those who need them.

Are you in need?

Did you lose your house, shed, or other property in the fires? Do you still need particular items? Contact MADRA by emailing madra.3892@gmail.com and our GIVIT group will get in touch.

Our current ‘wish list’

At the moment in Mallacoota and District, our list of needed items is:

  • Small recliner chair

  • Kitchen stools (2)

  • Outdoor garden furniture

  • Clothes dryer

  • Washing machine

  • Free-standing wood heater

Do you have any of these you would be willing to give away? If so, please follow the ‘how to’ list below.

You don’t need to stick to what’s on our list – other items can be offered too. You can post details of any new or ‘gently used’ item you would like to give away. MADRA can then look at what’s lodged on the site for Mallacoota and District locations and potentially match them up with local people in need.

How you can add your item to the GIVIT website:

  • Go to: https://www.givit.org.au/donate-items

  • Enter details of the item and the time-frame – a minimum two weeks is recommended

  • Add a photo – you must add at least one photo, or you won’t be able to continue with the offer

  • Select that you would like the item collected (our GIVIT group will pick it up)

  • Add location – e.g. Mallacoota or Genoa

  • Add your details – name, phone number, email

  • Select your preferred method of contact (e.g. email or text message)

  • Submit offer

If you need help with adding your item to the GIVIT website, let us know by emailing madra.3892@gmail.com

What happens next?

The MADRA GIVIT group will see if items offered in Mallacoota and District match what they know is needed. We ask the potential recipient if they would like your item, and if so, we will arrange to pick it up from you and deliver it to the recipient. Easy!

Nearly three years on from the fires, a lot of people are still struggling to re-establish their lives – both financially and emotionally. Even small offers of help can really mean a lot.

Mallacoota Airport update

MADRA would like to share the following Media Release issued by the Shire about the Mallacoota Airport:

East Gippsland Shire Council Media Release: 16 September 2022

The re-introduction of instrument flight procedures at Mallacoota Airport are expected to come into effect on 3 November.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Airservices Australia and East Gippsland Shire Council remain committed to working together to re-introduce instrument flight procedures as soon as possible.

The initial date of 6 October relied on the procedures being published by 8 September. While work is well advanced, the 8 September deadline was not met.

For safety reasons, all changes to flight procedures and flight paths must be notified to industry 28-days prior. This allows navigation database providers to capture the changes as well as appropriate industry notification.

There is a clear plan in place to transition the airport to certification – this remains the case.

Pilots are reminded to review before flight the Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) and NOTAM for the latest information regarding the status of the aerodrome and its instrument approach procedures.

Mallacoota Airport remains open and functional.

Council has developed and lodged the necessary Manuals of Operation.
