RediCommunities report

An overview will soon be available of the Red Cross RediCommunities workshops held in Mallacoota in June, which were supported by MADRA. The report will outline the discussions held on both days, which focused on exploring resilience, disasters and their impacts. On day one, the meaning of resilience was explored and a Resilience Assessment Tool was used to gauge the current resilience in Mallacoota and District in the areas of connection, knowledge, security and wellbeing. On day two, solution and improvement-based conversations were held around resilience themes including: natural resource management, economic opportunity, social cohesion, infrastructure, community preparedness and planning, vulnerable people, risk management and health. In the afternoon, representatives from emergency organisations and groups talked about their roles and provided advice.

Five actions were established and all of these are currently underway:

  • A fact sheet of important things for residents and visitors to know

  • An updated Local Incident Management Plan (LIMP)

  • A demonstration day to be attended by emergency services teams

  • Information/training on how to use the STAND communications technology the Shire has provided

  • Training for volunteers in setting up a local Relief Centre.

Further details will be in the finalised report, which will be made available and publicised by MADRA soon, so watch this space.

Chat and Chew dinner

MADRA’s popular ‘Sunday in the Soup’ get-togethers have evolved into a new style of event called ‘Chat and Chew’. This is a potluck dinner, which means you bring a dish of food to share with the group. Chat and Chew is on this Sunday, 10 September, at the Community Clubrooms from 5.00 to 7.00 pm. It’s a great opportunity to come together, share delicious food and enjoy each other’s company. Let’s celebrate our love of food together and strengthen our community through friendship and connectedness. If you can, bring a dish that simply brings you joy! Any enquiries, please contact Rev Jude on 0411 016 470. We hope you’ll come along and join in.

MADRA AGM

Save the Date! MADRA’s third AGM is being planned for Tuesday 31 October, with details to follow soon. All MADRA members are invited to attend, show their support and elect a new MADRA committee to continue the recovery and resilience journey. We hope to see lots of you there.

Mallacoota Endemic Garden

Another Save the Date! We are thrilled to hear that the grand opening of the Mallacoota Endemic Garden, a Friends of Mallacoota project supported by MADRA, is being held on Sunday 19 November – more details to follow. It’s sure to be a great occasion to celebrate this fantastic project and acknowledge all the hard work of those involved.

Thanks,

MADRA
